Research Description

Chronic kidney disease is a risk factor for brain microbleeds, which increase the risk of future stroke and dementia. Our lab studies the interaction of the gut microbiome with formation of brain microbleeds in mouse models of kidney disease. Students will primarily be involved in brain sectioning and histology, and will learn brain neuroanatomy. Students will assist with animal surgeries and mouse behavioral studies; and have the opportunity to learn about mass spectrometry in analysis of blood uremic toxins. Students are welcome to attend joint lab meetings with Neurology collaborators.
