Research Description

We are interested in dissecting mechanisms of integrative physiology using systems genetics approaches. This entails surveying natural variation in mouse and human populations for concordant patterns of genetic architecture, clinical traits and intermediary molecular information (eg. transcripts, proteins and/or metabolites). The basic intuition for these approaches assumes that striking links exists between genetic variation and clinical outcomes which can only be understood when analyzed alongside molecular information. This requires a combination of bioinformatics, biochemical and physiologic experimental approaches. We have a special interest in identification of novel endocrine circuits and dissection of skeletal muscle and cardiac physiology. More Info can be found below:

Requirements to Participate

Students must have a basic understanding of biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. GPA and other relevant work will also be considered. 2 year commitment.

Attendance: 30Pts (working assigned hours, being on time)
Lab Work: 30Pts (quality, accuracy, integrated.synthesis of information and safety)
Communication: 10Pts (Written/Oral reports, questions and discussion with mentor)
Lab citizenship: 30Pts (organization, clean up and follow through)
