Research Description

My lab studies the host response to infections with pathogenic bacteria and fungi. Specifically, we examine the role of the innate immune cells neutrophils and inflammatory monocytes in immune regulation, microbial killing and in tissue damage. Specifically, we are studying the unique aspects neutrophil processing of inflammatory cytokines in the course of disease using human peripheral blood cells in addition to mouse models of disease. Bio199 students will work closely with graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in my lab to learn the molecular and cell biological techniques, and will read papers related to the projects.
