GRAVES & MYASTHENIA
Department: SOM - Neurology
|UC Irvine-ALS Neuromuscular Center, 200 S. Manchester Avenue, Ste. 110, Orange CA 92868.|
The Neuromuscular Center provides care to patients with rare, neuromuscular diseases, including muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myopathies, and myasthenia gravis (MG). These conditions affect more than one million people in the United States – about 40% of whom are under the age of 18. Through diagnostic testing available at the center, our clinical neurologists are able to provide our patients with comprehensive treatments. However, many of today’s treatments are sub-optimal for the vast majority of the debilitating, and even fatal, diseases afflicting our patients. Our center is one of the state’s leaders in researching the causes of these complex neuromuscular conditions and developing effective treatments for them. Our center is actively involved in investigator-/industry-sponsored Phase 2 and Phase 3 clinical trials.
Students will provide administrative support to the clinical research coordinators. This is a good opportunity for students who want to explore the research aspects of a medical career.
